Extremely delighted to receive and share this wonderful cover posted from Mongolia! Thank you very much, Dashdondov Janchiv!!
The Seagull stamp was issued in 1978 to commemorate the Canadian International Philatelic Exhibition (CAPEX'78) held in Toronto from 9 to 18 June 1978. It is one of seven beautiful stamps issued by the Mongolian Postal Administration.
Issued on June 14, 2011 the Reindeer stamp belongs to a set of four featuring wild animals endemic to Mongolia. Despite the lack of water in the Gobi, some species such as the Yaks, Camels, Reindeers and Mongolian horses actually flourish in the extreme climate.
In addition, Dashdondov enclosed two sets of WWF stamps featuring the critically endangered Saiga Antelopes and Siberian Cranes. Their populations have shrunk enormously due to uncontrolled hunting and habitat loss, there are now estimated no more than 50,000 saigas and 3,200 - 4,000 Siberian cranes surviving today.
It is great to know that our beloved postage stamps can actually play an important role in spreading messages and educating people to protect endangered animals before it is too late.
