The five colorful Aloha Shirts stamps were issued on 19 Jan 2012 by the U.S. Postal Service to celebrate the spirit of "Aloha".
Aloha shirts are made from boldly patterned fabric showing decorative images of Hawaiian life. Two of the five classic shirts depicted in the stamp art showcase surfers and their boards; one shows fossil fish, shells, and sea stars; another shows a tropical flower known as the bird of paradise; and one shows Kilauea, a volcano on the Big Island of Hawaii.
The two butterfly stamps depicting the Baltimore Checkerspot were released on 20 Jan 2012 for use on large greeting card envelopes that require extra postage (20 cents more). The first butterfly stamp showing the Monarch butterfly was issued in 2010.
To make up for the postage, Three 3-cent "make up rate" stamp featuring a star highlighted in red, white and blue were used. These stamps were first issued in June 2002.
